Snapshots and professional portrait photographs, many depicting grounds, buildings, staff and activities of Angel Island Immigration
Station. Immigrant groups depicted include Japanese, Chinese and perhaps Indian, all depicted in traditional attire. Also
includes a few scenes depicting various immigrant groups taken on boats. A few views of an unidentified tropical location,
perhaps in the South Pacific, are also included. Also includes many photographs depicting Irma Schiffmann Marney, her wedding
to John A. Marney, her immediate and extended family, and associates. The Marneys relation to Angel Island and/or the collection
of the present materials is not known. Clippings in oversize folder ( --A) include a view of the station; a Christian Advocate
article on world events, dated March 23, 1916; and the headline image from a San Francisco Call article on the smuggling of
female Chinese slaves into San Francisco, dated November 27, 1912.

unidentified.
Entire contents originally received laid into the front of a generic, unmarked photograph album, insdie of which many of the
photographs were perhaps adhered. After removal of contents, album was discarded.
Annotation on a holiday greeting card that was originally adhered to inside of album's front cover: From the Queen Esther
girls of the Northern Minnesota Conference, Christmas, 1915.

Irma Dorothy Schiffmann was born in Stanislaw, Austria in 1897. The Schiffmann family emigrated to the United States in 1912.
In 1915 in San Francisco, Irma married John A. Marney, an immigrant from Budapest, Hungary, born approximately 1885. The Marneys
later lived in the Los Angeles area where John worked in the real estate field. Irma died in Los Angeles in 1985.
